Softball Preview: Loomis Chaffee School Pelicans vs. Cheshire Academy Cats
The Loomis Chaffee School Pelicans will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Cheshire Academy Cats at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Loomis Chaffee School is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Williston Northampton. Loomis Chaffee School put the hurt on Williston Northampton with a sharp 10-1 win on Saturday.
Violet Peverly made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Peverly was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jessica Chieco, who scored three runs while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Bella Cardona, who went 2-for-4 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Cheshire Academy came out on top against Taft School on Saturday by a score of 9-7 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).
A Sutera was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Cheshire Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Taft School only posted an OBP of .273.
Loomis Chaffee School might still be hurting after the 11-0 loss they got from Cheshire Academy in their previous meeting back in April of 2017. Can Loomis Chaffee School avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
