Softball Recap: Hayden Takes a Loss

Hayden lost against Mortimer Jordan back in March of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Hayden Wildcats fell just short of the Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Wildcats have suffered since April 12, 2024.

Baylee Scott and Payton Hill stepped up to the plate in a big way. Scott went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double, while Hill went 1-for-4 with one home run. Lanei McDanal was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Hayden has been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. The victory got Mortimer Jordan back to even at 6-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hayden will be taking part in a tournament against Mountain Brook at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Mountain Brook has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.6 runs per game on average), something Hayden will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Mortimer Jordan, they are taking a road trip to square off against Oneonta at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
