Elko comes up short despite Raquel Madigan's dominant performance

Recap: Elko Indians vs. Century Diamondbacks

The Elko Indians's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They took a 48-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of Century. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Elko came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 35th in Nevada, while Century is ranked 107th in Idaho).

Despite the loss, Elko still got an impressive performance from Raquel Madigan, who scored eight points. Madigan is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Bryleigh Cervantes, who scored six points along with three steals.

Elko has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season. As for Century, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-8.

Elko will head out on the road to face off against Churchill County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Churchill County and Elko are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. Century will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Preston at 7:30 p.m. on January 9th.
