Softball Game Preview: Tidewater Academy Warriors vs. Amelia Academy Patriots

Tidewater Academy is on a five-game streak of home losses, and Amelia Academy an 11-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Thursday. The Tidewater Academy Warriors will look to defend their home field against the Amelia Academy Patriots at 4:30 p.m. Tidewater Academy has given up an average of 12.8 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Tidewater Academy fell victim to Kenston Forest and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 19-0 to the Kavaliers.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Amelia Academy). Everything went their way against Westover Christian Academy on Tuesday as they made off with a 20-3 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Patriots needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Molly Lane made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.

In other batting news, Isabella Long was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with six stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Kerrie Wallace was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs.

Amelia Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Amelia Academy's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-11. As for Tidewater Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 1-11.

Tidewater Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Amelia Academy when the teams last played on April 1st, winning 12-9. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Patriots turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
