Albuquerque Academy proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by ten) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Valley Vikings 7-5. This was payback for the Chargers, who suffered an 11-6 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Melissa Purcella made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Purcella was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brooklynn Dominguez, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Grace Knouse also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
The win got Albuquerque Academy back to even at 7-7. As for Valley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.
Coincidentally, Albuquerque Academy and Valley will both be playing Hope Christian the next time they take the field. The Chargers will head out to face the Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Vikings will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
