Basketball Game Preview: South Shore Vikings vs. St. John's Cadets

The South Shore Vikings will square off against the St. John's Cadets at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

St. John's will be up against a hot South Shore team: the squad just extended their winning streak to six. South Shore took their matchup on Monday with ease, bagging a 95-27 victory over Midwood. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 56th, while the Hornets are ranked 391st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, St. John's made easy work of Our Lady of Good Counsel on Friday and carried off a 71-47 win. The Cadets pushed the score to 60-35 by the end of the third, a deficit the Falcons cut but never quite recovered from.

South Shore has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.7 points per game. As for St. John's, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-1.

South Shore couldn't quite finish off St. John's in their previous matchup back in February of 2022 and fell 70-67. Thankfully for South Shore, Delaney Thomas (who posted 25 points in addition to eight boards and five assists) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
