Basketball Preview: Lakota East Thunderhawks vs. Winton Woods Warriors
Lakota East is 3-0 against the Warriors since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Lakota East Thunderhawks will head out on the road to take on the Winton Woods Warriors at 7:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Lakota East comes in on four and the Warriors on six.
Lakota East put the finishing touches on their ninth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They claimed a resounding 57-11 win over Colerain at home. Lakota East pushed the score to 50-11 by the end of the third, a deficit the Cardinals had no chance of recovering from.
Lakota East's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brooke Asher, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Asher has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Celina Blount was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with four blocks and three steals.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Winton Woods beat the Spartans 50-45 on Thursday. Given Winton Woods' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while the Spartans are ranked 248th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lakota East has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. As for Winton Woods, they pushed their record up to 16-5 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Lakota East won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer in their previous matchup back in February of 2015, slipping by the Warriors 38-37. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lakota East since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
