Recap: Lafayette Rams vs. Grafton Clippers
After flying high against the York Falcons on Tuesday, the Lafayette Rams came back down to earth. Lafayette fell 48-39 to Grafton on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Lafayette can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 144th, while Grafton is ranked 18th).
Lafayette lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kenzie Charity, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for her. MaKayla Keys was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three steals.
Grafton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Taylor Ragland, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds. The contest was Ragland's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alonni Wells, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Lafayette's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Grafton, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lafayette will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Poquoson at 7:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024. As for Grafton, they will head out on the road to face off against Landstown at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
