Softball Game Preview: Foard Tigers vs. West Lincoln Rebels

The Foard Tigers will head out to face off against the West Lincoln Rebels at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. West Lincoln took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Foard, who comes in off a win.

Foard is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They walked away with an 8-4 victory over East Burke on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Cavaliers: they've now won seven in a row.

Sophia Rhoney and Karsyn Sigmon made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Rhoney didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, Sigmon pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. At bat, Rhoney scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-2, while Sigmon scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave Sigmon a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alexa Stillwell, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Addy Lael, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

Meanwhile, West Lincoln lost 11-2 to Bunker Hill on Tuesday. The game marked the Rebels' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

West Lincoln saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabrielle Wright, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

West Lincoln has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season. Foard's record now sits at 2-3.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Foard has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like West Lincoln struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Foard suffered a grim 11-5 defeat to West Lincoln when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Can Foard avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
