Softball Recap: Marcia Parker's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Terre Haute South Vigo over Terre Haute North Vigo

Terre Haute South Vigo had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 2-12 to make it four. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 5-4 to the Terre Haute North Vigo Patriots, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Braves were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Terre Haute South Vigo got a big performance out of Marcia Parker, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Samarra Newburn, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs.

As for Terre Haute North Vigo, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games.

On Terre Haute North Vigo's side, Kyleigh Walker was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Walker was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.

Walker wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Rayven Wilson, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI. That's the most hits Wilson has posted since back in May of 2024. Kyanna Gardner was another, going 2-for-3 with one run.

Coming up, Terre Haute South Vigo will face off against Columbus North at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Braves' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bull Dogs have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Terre Haute North Vigo, they will take on Avon at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Orioles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.93 runs per game on average), something the Patriots will no doubt try to take advantage of.
