Softball Recap: West Jessamine Comes Up Short

West Jessamine extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping their season record down to 14-13 in the process. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the East Jessamine Jaguars. The Colts were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Jaguars earlier this season, when they won 7-5.

West Jessamine saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addi Vahle, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

As for East Jessamine, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 18-22. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games.

On East Jessamine's side, Hillary Stansbury spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits. Stansbury has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alex Smith, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Natalie Alimento was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Looking ahead, West Jessamine will face off against Western Hills at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wolverines have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.54 runs per game on average), something the Colts will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for East Jessamine, they will square off against Madison Southern at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.17 runs per game on average), something the Jaguars will no doubt try to take advantage of.
