Softball Game Preview: Kearns Cougars vs. Woods Cross Wildcats

The Kearns Cougars will face off against the Woods Cross Wildcats at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Having struggled with eight defeats in a row dating back to last season, Kearns turned things around against Alta on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Hawks 10-9.

The team relied heavily on Sky Aguirre, who scored a run and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-3. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Maliyah Solomon, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Kearns always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .679. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alta only posted an OBP of .407.

Meanwhile, Woods Cross gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They never let East get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Leopards recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Audrey Ayala was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Tina Tuakiapimahu was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

Kearns was able to grind out a solid victory over Woods Cross in their previous meeting back in May of 2017, winning 6-2. Does Kearns have another victory up their sleeve, or will Woods Cross turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
