Baseball Recap: Lake Wales Comes Up Short

Lake Wales and Mount Dora squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Lake Wales had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Hurricanes by a score of 3-2. That's two games in a row now that the Highlanders have lost by just one run.

Max Seidl spent all 8.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up eight Ks. Lake Wales is 2-1 when Seidl posts eight or more strikeouts, but 10-15 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Lake Wales saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alex Byrd, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Lake Wales has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-16 record this season. As for Mount Dora, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season.

While Lake Wales had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
