Basketball Recap: Compton Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Woodrow Wilson, Compton was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They managed a 66-61 victory over the Cabrillo Jaguars. This was a revenge game for the Tarbabes: when they faced off against the Jaguars back in December of 2025, they had to take a 72-63 loss.

Zai Williams had an outrageously good game as he went 10-for-17 to rack up 22 points and six boards. Xavier Goodlow was another key player, putting up 13 points and three steals.

Cabrillo's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Marques MJ Reed Jr, who shot 63% from the field en route to 13 points and six rebounds. Reed Jr has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Aaron Baptiste, who went 7-for-13 on his way to 17 points.

Compton's record now sits at 9-12. As for Cabrillo, their loss dropped their record down to 12-11.

Compton has already played their next matchup, a 71-35 win against Westminster on the 24th. As for Cabrillo, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 63-42 defeat against Verbum Dei Jesuit on the 24th.
