Softball Recap: Riverdale Country Drops Season-High Score on Horace Mann

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Riverdale Country). They were the clear victors by a 13-5 margin over the Horace Mann Lions on Wednesday. With that victory, the Falcons brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.

E V made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those doubles marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, Riverdale Country let Ria Laddha and Izzy Shin run wild. Laddha went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Shin got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Laddha has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Tess Evans, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

Riverdale Country kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.

Riverdale Country's win bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Horace Mann, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Riverdale Country will head out to take on Hackley at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Hornets' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Falcons' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Horace Mann, they are taking a road trip to challenge Trevor Day at 4:00 p.m. on May 1.
