Softball Recap: New Caney Eagles vs. Willis Wildkats
New Caney dropped to 18-10-1 on Tuesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the Willis Wildkats by a score of 4-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildkats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 back in March.
As for Willis, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games.
For Willis' part, Alexi Ford spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on eight hits and racked up 20 Ks.
On the hitting side, Willis saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mattie Collins, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
