Basketball Game Preview: South Mecklenburg Sabres vs. Greensboro Day School Bengals

The South Mecklenburg Sabres and the Greensboro Day School Bengals will face off at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest, having both just played. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

South Mecklenburg saw some tournament action on Friday. They took a 70-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cuthbertson.

Despite the defeat, South Mecklenburg got top-tier performance from Jim Gatehouse, who went 9-for-18 on his way to 27 points in addition to six rebounds and three blocks. Gatehouse's afternoon made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Davis, who posted nine points.

Meanwhile, Greensboro Day School entered their tilt with Rabun Gap-Nacoochee on Friday with seven consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with eight. They took their matchup with ease, bagging an 81-41 victory over the Eagles. The Bengals have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 20 points or more this season.

South Mecklenburg's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Greensboro Day School, their win bumped their record up to 9-1.

South Mecklenburg came up short against Greensboro Day School in their previous matchup back in November of 2021, falling 61-57. Can the Sabres avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
