Basketball Recap: Red Lake Drops Season-High Score on Cass Lake-Bena

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Red Lake). They had just enough and edged the Cass Lake-Bena Panthers out 90-87. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Warriors' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 330th, while the Panthers are ranked 154th).

Red Lake's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Marcello Loud, who went 11 of 21 on his way to 27 points in addition to six assists and six rebounds. That's the most assists Loud has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyrone Beaulieu Jr, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards.

Loud wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Red Lake was working as a unit and finished the game with 25 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Red Lake and bumps their season record up to 5-7. As for Cass Lake-Bena, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Red Lake has already played their next match (against Pine River-Backus), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Cass Lake-Bena will head out on the road to square off against Mountain Iron-Buhl at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
