Basketball Recap: Merritt Island Comes Up Short

Merritt Island was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a hard 51-35 fall against the Cocoa Tigers. If the Mustangs were looking for revenge after losing 65-52 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Cocoa had a senior duo take command as Frederick Boateng went 5 for 7 on his way to 14 points and three steals and Jerome Jones posted eight points along with seven boards and four steals. The dominant performance gave Jones a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Tony Adderley, who scored seven points and five boards.

Merritt Island's loss dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Cocoa, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-10 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Merritt Island will square off against Merritt Island Christian at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Merritt Island Christian will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Merritt Island surely won't give up without a fight. As for Cocoa, they will challenge Sebastian River at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
