Softball Recap: Cape Henlopen Makes It 11 in a Row at Home

Cape Henlopen faced Smyrna in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Vikings blew past the Eagles 10-2. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by seven runs or more this season.

Abby Marsh spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Ava Calciano was incredible, firing off two home runs, two stolen bases, and three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Alivia Heers, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Cape Henlopen's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-0. As for Smyrna, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-7.

Coming up, Cape Henlopen will face off against Polytech at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Vikings surely won't give up without a fight. As for Smyrna, they will take on Delmarva Christian at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
