Basketball Game Preview: Mica Mountain Thunderbolts vs. Sahuaro Cougars

Two dominant guards in Isabella Webb and Carly Coolidge are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Mica Mountain Thunderbolts will host the Sahuaro Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mica Mountain will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Last Friday, Mica Mountain didn't have too much trouble with Ironwood Ridge as they won 55-41. Given the Thunderbolts' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while the Nighthawks are ranked 89th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Sahuaro played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against Salpointe Catholic, falling 67-28. The game marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Mica Mountain will need to focus on slowing down Harmony Twito, one of several Sahuaro players who made an impact when they last played. She posted 11 points. That's the most points Twito has posted since back in December of 2024.

Mica Mountain's victory bumped their record up to 19-7. As for Sahuaro, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 20-8.

Mica Mountain beat Sahuaro 53-44 in their previous matchup back in January. Does Mica Mountain have another victory up their sleeve, or will Sahuaro turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
