Basketball Recap: Bryce Valley Comes Up Short

Bryce Valley suffered their biggest loss since February 15, 2024 on Saturday. They took a blow against the Kanab Cowboys, falling 91-60. The defeat continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Cowboys: they've now lost three in a row.

Bryce Valley's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Luke Andrus, who posted nine points in addition to eight rebounds and five assists. Another player making a difference was Rustyn Chynoweth, who had 12 points.

Kanab got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Cash Mortensen out in front who went 12 of 15 on his way to 28 points and three steals. Mortensen is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyle Brown, who went 9 of 13 on his way to 21 points along with eight boards and five assists.

Bryce Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Kanab, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bryce Valley will head out to square off against Wayne at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Bryce Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.5 points per game this season. As for Kanab, they will venture away from home to challenge Millard at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Kanab knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matches -- so hopefully Millard likes a good challenge.
