Baseball Game Preview: Davenport West Falcons vs. Mt. Vernon Mustangs

The Davenport West Falcons will head out on the road to challenge the Mt. Vernon Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Davenport West will bounce into Wednesday's matchup after beating Clinton, who they had gone 1-6 against in their seven prior meetings. The Falcons put the hurt on the River Kings with a sharp 13-2 win on Monday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Falcons as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon posted their closest win since May 28th on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Clear Creek-Amana 11-9. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.

Mt. Vernon's victory bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Davenport West, their win bumped their record up to 6-12.

Davenport West was able to grind out a solid victory over Mt. Vernon in their previous meeting back in July of 2024, winning 4-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
