Basketball Recap: Greenfield-Central Comes Up Short

Greenfield-Central entered their game against Lawrence Central on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Greenfield-Central Cougars fell 79-70 to the Lawrence Central Bears. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Cougars came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while the Bears are ranked 46th).

Loss or not, Greenfield-Central got some senior leadership from Braylon Mullins and Boston Willard. Mullins went 10-for-21 on his way to 28 points and six boards, while Willard dropped a double-double with 12 points and 11 assists. That was a full 40% of Greenfield-Central's points, marking the third time in a row Mullins has posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Michael Johnson, who had 11 points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Greenfield-Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. They posted seven more assists than Lawrence Central's also-impressive total of 14.

Lawrence Central's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Albert Gooden iii, who went 6-for-11 en route to 21 points and eight boards. The dominant performance gave Gooden iii a new career-high in rebounds. Doron Harris was another key player, going 7-for-14 to rack up 20 points and five boards.

The defeat was their first at home , dropping their record down to 18-3. As for Lawrence Central, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
