Football Game Preview: Guyer Wildcats vs. Braswell Bengals

Guyer is a perfect 5-0 against Braswell since November of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Wildcats will face off against the Bengals at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Guyer has six straight victories, Braswell has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Braswell better have a healthy lead at halftime, because if Guyer's game on Friday is any indication, that's when Guyer really gets things going. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 47-21 margin over Lewisville. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by 20 points or more this season.

Guyer's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carter Morgan, who threw for 258 yards and one TD on only 17 passes, and also punched in one score on the ground. Those 258 passing yards gave Morgan a new career-high. Kaedyn Cobbs helped Morgan out on the ground, rushing for 61 yards and three touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Braswell played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by Hebron 42-7. While losing is never fun, the Bengals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 373rd, while the Hawks are ranked 94th).

Guyer's victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Braswell, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.

Everything went Guyer's way against Braswell when the teams last played back in November of 2024, as Guyer made off with a 41-20 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
