Soccer Game Preview: Camarillo vs. Oak Park

The Camarillo Scorpions will face off against the Oak Park Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams beat their previous opponents by a single goal, so this matchup might be just as contested.

Camarillo took a loss when they played away from home last Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Their defense stepped up to hand Simi Valley a 1-0 shutout. Given the Scorpions' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 177th, while the Pioneers are ranked 774th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Camarillo's one-goal win came courtesy of Michael Mariscal, who's now up to two this season.

Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, Oak Park brought some dynamite into their most recent match. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over Simi Valley on Wednesday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Eagles' offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

Camarillo has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up two goals over those five games. As for Oak Park, their win bumped their record up to 4-2-1.
