Softball Game Preview: Pioneer Mustangs vs. Evergreen Valley Cougars

The Pioneer Mustangs will face off against the Evergreen Valley Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pioneer has given up an average of 8.4 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Prospect hit Pioneer with a six-run fourth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Mustangs lost 11-1 to the Panthers. That's two games in a row now that the Mustangs have lost by exactly ten runs.

Meanwhile, Evergreen Valley had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 10-9 W against the Comets.

Evergreen Valley let Jayda Galvan and Ariella Solorio run wild. Galvan went 3-for-5 with two doubles and one RBI, while Solorio went 2-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. Aliya Azam was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Evergreen Valley's win bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Pioneer, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.

Pioneer came out on top in a nail-biter against Evergreen Valley in their previous meeting back in May of 2021, sneaking past 6-5. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
