Basketball Recap: West Milford Beats Passaic Valley for Their Fourth Straight Victory

West Milford had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.7 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They came out on top against the Passaic Valley Hornets by a score of 42-35. Given the Highlanders' advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while the Hornets are ranked 250th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

West Milford's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Amanda O'Brien led the charge by dropping a double-double on 13 points and ten boards. O'Brien has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Sarah Benowitz, who posted 14 points.

West Milford smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive rebounds in nine consecutive games.

West Milford has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. As for Passaic Valley, they dropped their record down to 3-4 with the loss, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.

West Milford has already played their next contest (against Passaic County Tech), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Passaic Valley will head out to challenge Ridgefield Park at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
