Basketball Preview: Simmons Blue Devils vs. Shaw Warriors
Simmons and the Warriors are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2021, but not for long. The Simmons Blue Devils will face off against the Shaw Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
In what's become a running theme this season, Simmons gave their fans yet another huge win on Monday. They claimed a resounding 67-18 win over West Bolivar on the road. With that win, Simmons brought their scoring average up to 50.3 points per game.
Simmons got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Akiah Prince out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. Prince is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Esco, who scored 15 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Shaw was able to grind out a solid win over the Blue Devils on Wednesday, taking the game 55-47.
The victory was the third in a row for Simmons, bringing their record for this year to 15-8. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 40 points. As for Shaw, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-10.
Simmons came up short against the Warriors in their previous meeting on Wednesday, falling 55-47. Can Simmons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
