Baseball Recap: Independence Comes Up Short

Independence fell victim to East Mecklenburg and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, the Patriots' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Alex Kenion spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits.

Independence's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for East Mecklenburg, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

While Independence had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
