Basketball Game Preview: Palmetto Panthers vs. Coral Glades Jaguars

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Panthers take on the Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Palmetto is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They breezed past Coral Reef to the tune of 87-39. The win was familiar territory for the Panthers who have now won three matchups in a row.

Meanwhile, everything went Coral Glades' way against Park Vista on Friday as Coral Glades made off with an 83-61 victory. Given the Jaguars' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while the Cobras are ranked 127th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Palmetto better focus on containing Donovan Swain and Gavin Reed as the pair were huge in Coral Glades' win. Swain shot 5-for-8 from deep and almost dropped a double-double with 23 points and nine rebounds, while Reed went 7 of 9 on his way to 19 points along with seven assists and six boards. What's more, Reed also posted a 78% shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kyler Theophile, who posted eight points and 11 rebounds.

Coral Glades pushed their record up to 19-7 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.7 points over those games. As for Palmetto, their record is now 16-10.

Palmetto came up short against Coral Glades in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 64-59. Thankfully for Palmetto, Tahir Bond (who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
