Baseball Recap: Great Bend Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

Great Bend came tearing into Friday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Liberal Redskins as they made off with a 12-1 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 14-6 on Friday.

Great Bend got a great performance from Hunter Herrman as he struck out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. That's the most strikeouts Herrman has posted since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Daxton Minton was a standout: he scored two runs while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxon Wondra, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI.

Great Bend was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Liberal only posted a batting average of .261.

Great Bend's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Liberal, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Great Bend will square off against Hays at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Panthers 2.7, the Indians 3) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Liberal, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Woodward at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
