Softball Recap: Cottondale Takes Down Sneads in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Cottondale had no trouble coming through when it counted. They put the hurt on the Sneads Pirates with a sharp 8-1 win on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won nine games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Annelise Skipper made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 19 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, earning one RBI and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chrishaunna Dawson, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Paige Carter, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Cottondale is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Sneads, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last ten matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season.

Cottondale will face off against Liberty County at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Hornets surely won't give up without a fight. Sneads does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
