Basketball Recap: Innovation Takes a Loss

On Saturday, the Innovation Bulls ended up a good deal behind the Cocoa Tigers and lost 65-51. The Bulls have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Innovation saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jahniel Phillipus went 6 of 9 en route to 18 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Phillipus has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alejandro Troconis, who posted seven points.

TJ Parks went supernova for Cocoa, shooting 5-for-8 from beyond the arc and dropping a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Frederick Boateng, who put up 15 points and five rebounds.

Innovation's loss dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Cocoa, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 4-7 record this season.

Innovation will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Jones at 7:00 p.m. on January 9th. As for Cocoa, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 51-38 victory against Astronaut on the 2nd.
