Preview: Midway Raiders vs. Fairmont Golden Tornadoes
Midway is 0-4 against Fairmont since February of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Midway Raiders will look to defend their home court against the Fairmont Golden Tornadoes at 6:00 p.m. Midway will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Last Wednesday, Midway strolled past Rosewood with points to spare, taking the game 33-19.
Midway's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from McKenzie Williams, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds. That's the first time this season that Williams pulled down eight or more rebounds. Kara Beth Benton was another key contributor, scoring five points along with eight steals.
Meanwhile, Fairmont put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Saturday. They put the hurt on Purnell Swett with a sharp 50-26 win. Given Fairmont's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while Purnell Swett is ranked 263rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Midway's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-4. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 22.67 points. As for Fairmont, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season.
Midway suffered a grim 57-32 defeat to Fairmont in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Can Midway avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
