Basketball Recap: Cornerstone Charter Cardinals vs. Piedmont Classical Bobcats

Cornerstone Charter was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They took a 59-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Piedmont Classical Bobcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bobcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 45-24 back in December of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Cornerstone Charter lost, don't look at Kaylen Williamson. Despite the final result, she went 9-for-21 to rack up 27 points and three blocks. Williamson continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Haven Becker was another key player, putting up six points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Piedmont Classical to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ge'Kayla Goins, who almost dropped a double-double with 18 points and nine steals. What's more, Goins also posted a 38% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Nafi Kanoute, who went 6-for-12 en route to 17 points and eight boards.

Cornerstone Charter's defeat dropped their record down to 7-18. As for Piedmont Classical, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cornerstone Charter will face off against Carver at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Carver will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Cornerstone Charter surely won't give up without a fight. As for Piedmont Classical, they will challenge College Prep & Leadership Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
