Basketball Recap: Pine Falls Despite Big Games from Wade Singleton and Thomas Sawicki

Pine was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 61-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Port St. Lucie Jaguars.

Despite the loss, Pine had strong showings from Thomas Sawicki, who posted 19 points, and Wade Singleton, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. Singleton has been hot, having posted nine or more boards the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Connor Hampton, who had six points.

Port St. Lucie's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Alijah Baez led the charge by going 6 of 13 on his way to 16 points. The dominant performance gave Baez a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Alexis, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 13 points and eight rebounds.

Pine's defeat dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Port St. Lucie, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pine will head out to take on Lincoln Park Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pine is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.1 points per game this season. As for Port St. Lucie, they will square off against Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Central has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 210 points over their last three contests.
