Elkhart is 0-6 against Penn since April of 2021 but things could change on Tuesday. The Lions will take on the Kingsmen at 7:00 p.m.
Things were looking good for Elkhart after they put the first run on the board on Saturday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Valparaiso.
Addison Reid was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two runs.
Meanwhile, Penn entered their tilt with South Bend Adams on Thursday with ten consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 11. They blew past the Eagles 15-1. The Kingsmen might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.
Penn also got a great performance from Caitlyn Denny as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Denny has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Ava Zachary was incredible, going 2-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Teagan Milewski also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Penn was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Penn pushed their record up to 13-2 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Elkhart, they now have a losing record of 8-9.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Elkhart hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. However, it's not like Penn struggles in that department as they've averaged .358. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Elkhart suffered a grim 12-1 defeat to Penn when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
