Softball Game Preview: Wyoming Area Warriors vs. Wyoming Valley West Spartans

The Wyoming Area Warriors will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Wyoming Valley West Spartans at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Wyoming Area will be strutting in after a victory while Wyoming Valley West will be coming in after a loss.

Wyoming Area lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Dunmore, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Saturday's match. Wyoming Area's pitcher stepped up to hand Dunmore a 13-0 shutout on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Warriors.

Alexa Gasek was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Allison Layland, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Kaia Brown was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Wyoming Valley West had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They came up short against Northwest Area last Friday, falling 8-1. The defeat continues a trend for the Spartans in their meetings with the Rangers: they've now lost three in a row.

Brooke Long was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one double.

Wyoming Area now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Wyoming Valley West, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.

Wyoming Area came out on top in a nail-biter against Wyoming Valley West in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. Does Wyoming Area have another victory up their sleeve, or will Wyoming Valley West turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
