Basketball Game Preview: Baker Braves vs. Trona Tornadoes

The Baker Braves will head out to square off against the Trona Tornadoes at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Baker is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.

Last Friday, Baker got the win against Immanuel Christian by a conclusive 51-27.

Anthony Ortiz and Anthony Ibarra were among the main playmakers for Baker as the former went 7 for 15 en route to 20 points and five assists and the latter posted 11 points in addition to five assists and five steals. That's the most assists Ortiz has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Juan Alvarez, who had two points and three steals.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 60 points the game before, Trona was a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They were dealt a 57-26 loss at the hands of Big Pine. The Tornadoes haven't had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Baker's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-7. As for Trona, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-12.

Baker came out on top in a nail-biter against Trona when the teams last played back in December of 2024, sneaking past 33-31. The rematch might be a little tougher for Baker since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
