Baseball Recap: Springbrook Takes a Loss

Springbrook extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping them down to 5-4. They lost 16-6 to the Paint Branch Panthers. The Blue Devils were not able to make up for their loss to the Panthers from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

James Reiner was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

As for Paint Branch, their record is now 4-5. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by ten runs or more this season.

On Paint Branch's side, Sebastian Ruiz was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Ruiz has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mason Grayer, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Paint Branch is 4-1 when Grayer posts two or more stolen bases, but 0-4 otherwise. Nolin Cockerham also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Springbrook will venture away from home to challenge Magruder at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Paint Branch, they will head out to face off against Gaithersburg at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season.
