Basketball Recap: Chamberlain Takes a Loss

Chamberlain and Robinson squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Chamberlain had to settle for second. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 47-46 to the Robinson Knights. The Storm were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Knights earlier this season, when they won 47-34.

Despite the loss, Chamberlain still got an impressive performance from Ellayna Stephens, who posted 31 points and four steals. Stephens' evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 18 points. Alyssa Dejesus was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Robinson's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Natalie Ashburn, who put up six points in addition to 12 boards and eight blocks. Ashburn is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted three or more in the last eight games she's played. Emma Herlihy also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Chamberlain's defeat dropped their record down to 19-6. As for Robinson, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 15-8.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Chamberlain will face off against Weeki Wachee at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Weeki Wachee will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Chamberlain surely won't give up without a fight. As for Robinson, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lemon Bay at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lemon Bay knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Robinson likes a good challenge.
