Softball Recap: St. Thomas Aquinas Gets the Win

St. Thomas Aquinas extended their postseason success on Tuesday against Pembroke Pines Charter. They won by a run and slipped past the Jaguars 8-7. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Raiders also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2021.

Lavinia Miller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, St. Thomas Aquinas let Sara Wrzosek and Victoria Brunette run wild. Wrzosek went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double, while Brunette went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Wrzosek has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Brianna Sims, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: St. Thomas Aquinas kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matches.

St. Thomas Aquinas has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-12 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Pembroke Pines Charter, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 12-15.

Looking ahead, St. Thomas Aquinas will square off against South Fork at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Raiders surely won't give up without a fight. Pembroke Pines Charter does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
