Palm Desert proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by seven) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Cathedral Phantoms 5-3. Winning may never get old, but the Aztecs sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row.

Jake Brande spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Stevie Hutchinson and Sebastian Morales did most of the damage at the plate: Hutchinson went 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple, while Morales went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Zach Gibbs was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Palm Desert's victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Cathedral, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-11.
