Gallup waltzed into their match on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Shiprock Chieftains as they made off with a 58-38 win. Given the Bengals' advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked fourth, while the Chieftains are ranked 52nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Gallup's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 23-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.5 points over those games. As for Shiprock, their loss dropped their record down to 11-14.

Coming up, Gallup will welcome Aztec at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Gallup's defense has only allowed 30 points per game this season, so Aztec's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Shiprock, they will venture away from home to challenge Miyamura at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
