Baseball Recap: Coon Rapids Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Robbinsdale Armstrong, Coon Rapids was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They walked away with a 9-4 win over the DeLaSalle Islanders.

Coon Rapids got a great performance from Gavin Hostetler as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Reese Sharp, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.3 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Jacob Kalafut, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

The victory was their first at home, bumping their record up to 2-7. As for DeLaSalle, their record now sits at 3-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Coon Rapids will venture away from home to face off against Buffalo at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Bison's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Cardinals' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for DeLaSalle, they will face off against Kennedy at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Islanders surely won't give up without a fight.
