Baseball Recap: West Carroll Drops Highest Score of Season Against Humboldt

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask West Carroll). They blew past the Humboldt Vikings 16-1 on Monday. The War Eagles have beaten the Vikings the last eight times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Vikings has come to flipping the script.

Sawyer Jackson looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Cole McMinn, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. He also brought in three RBI, which is notable because West Carroll is 2-1 when he posts at least three RBI, but 1-10 otherwise. Drake O'Bryan was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2.

West Carroll hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.

West Carroll's win bumped their record up to 3-11. As for Humboldt, they are on a 23-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

West Carroll will have a chance to go back-to-back against Humboldt: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
