Baseball Game Preview: Casteel Colts vs. Perry Pumas

The Casteel Colts will take on the Perry Pumas at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Casteel will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.

Casteel's tournament run continued when they took on Wesleyan Christian Academy on Saturday. The Colts came out on top against the Trojans by a score of 8-3.

Caden Marriott looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Baylor Denny and Ryne Barker did most of the damage at the plate: Denny scored a run while going 1-for-3, while Barker scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Andres Armenta, who scored two runs and stole a base.

Meanwhile, Perry faced Brophy College Prep in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Pumas came up short against the Broncos, falling 13-5. The defeat continues a trend for the Pumas in their meetings with the Broncos: they've now lost four in a row.

Rowen Noreus made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. Luke Calendo was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Casteel is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Perry, their loss dropped their record down to 15-5.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Casteel hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Perry struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
