Baseball Game Preview: Northgate Broncos vs. Mt. Diablo Red Devils

For the second straight game, Northgate will face off against Mt. Diablo. The Broncos will challenge the Red Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Northgate has five straight victories, Mt. Diablo has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

If Northgate beats Mt. Diablo with 15 runs on Thursday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Broncos never let the Red Devils get on the board and left with a 15-0 win on Tuesday.

Brandon King looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ben Buzzard and Wyatt Curran did most of the damage at the plate: Buzzard went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double, while Curran went 1-for-2 with four RBI and two runs. Those four RBI gave Curran a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Shane Malloy, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Northgate was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Northgate's record now sits at 15-6. As for Mt. Diablo, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-12.

Mt. Diablo's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Northgate has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Mt. Diablo, though, as they've been averaging 9.7 hits. Given Northgate's sizable advantage in that area, the Red Devils will need to find a way to close that gap.
