Softball Recap: Oakland Snags Eighth Win in Last Nine Games

Oakland had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Wilson Central on Monday. The Patriots were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Wildcats. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 matches by six runs or more this season.

Kyleigh Higgs made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Oakland let Jazmyne Watkins and Chloe Aaron run wild. Watkins went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Aaron went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs Watkins has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Jada Ellison, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Oakland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.

Oakland has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-5-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Wilson Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 24-12.

Coming up, Oakland will challenge Stewarts Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Patriots 2.7, the Red Hawks 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. Wilson Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
